Alliance Energy builds a culture of giving

Alliance Energy

Alliance Energy’s Paul McLellan has seen just how far Hospitals of Regina Foundation has come over the past 30 years, and is thrilled that he and his company have been a part of the journey.

“I served on the first committee that went out into the community looking to raise money for Regina’s hospitals,” says Paul, Alliance’s chief executive officer.  “Since then, it has been amazing to watch southern Saskatchewan embrace the Foundation and its commitment to investing in top quality health-care services.”

For Alliance Energy, giving back is a part of its culture. Like many companies operating in Saskatchewan, it has a vested interest in being a good corporate citizen. A significant part of that commitment means ensuring the organization has a positive impact on the communities where its employees work, live and raise their families. With the company’s head office located in Regina, its support of Regina's hospitals remains an important priority.

We take great pride in our partnership with the Foundation. There is nothing more important than building strong and healthy communities for the people of this province,” he says. “Our employees have worked on many projects within our hospitals where they have seen firsthand the impact their support has on the well-being of our people.

Building on the relationship its predecessors first established with our hospitals in 1984, Alliance Energy continues to support many key health-care services. That includes the Rawlco Centre for Mother Baby Care, the Prostate Assessment Centre, Pediatric Services and Emergency Medical Services.

“Countless babies, mothers and families benefit from the advanced services provided by the Rawlco Centre,” says Nicki Bayfield-Ash, executive director, women’s and children’s health. “Partners like Alliance Energy ensure the Centre remains one of the most advanced and family-friendly facilities in Canada.”

The company also played an important role in the Foundation’s 2014 Surgical Campaign. Members of its senior management team donated $89, 500 that the organization then matched, for a contribution of more than $179,000. That generosity helped purchase a new ENT Navigation System that produces 3-D images of a patient’s anatomy so surgeons can perform nose and skull-base surgeries with greater accuracy.

“The needs of our hospitals often mirror the priorities of our workforce,” says Paul. “Many of the initiatives we support have touched us on a personal level. Together, we are doing our part to ensure everyone has access to the excellent care they deserve.”

That same affinity for giving back has had a positive impact on the company’s own culture. It is a shift that Paul believes can be measured by more than dollars and cents.

It is about more than donating funds to a cause and then never thinking about it again. We recognize that our support has a direct impact on people in our community – our mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers, he says. “I view our employees, like all HRF donors, as real-life heroes. Time and time again they have rallied together to make a meaningful difference in the lives of so many. That is a credit to HRF and to each one of its donors.
