Early diagnosis is often a critical factor in the success of cancer treatment. This is why Hospitals of Regina Foundation continually supports the technology and advancements that our medical teams require to provide the earliest possible cancer diagnoses, as well as timely and effective treatment for patients living in Regina and throughout southern Saskatchewan.

Breast Assessment Centre

In 2006, we advanced care in southern Saskatchewan by helping to establish the Breast Assessment Centre and equipping it with leading-edge breast imaging and diagnostic tools that offer patients a streamlined process, allowing them to undergo several procedures a day.

One technology includes digital breast tomosynthesis, also known as 3D mammography, which is an advanced form of breast imaging that uses a low-dose x-ray system and computer-generated reconstructions to create three-dimensional images of the breast.  It aids in the early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer, and reduces the incidence of false positives. Hospitals of Regina Foundation committed $600,000 to this technology in 2020.

Prostate Assessment Centre

The Prostate Assessment Centre, at the Pasqua Hospital, is a one-stop place where patients receive assessment, diagnosis, treatment, information and support regarding prostate cancer. The Foundation invests in priority technology such as dedicated ultrasound machines, biopsy guns, laboratory equipment to test biopsies such as microtomes for creating thin slices of biopsied tissue, cryostats for preserving the biopsy samples at subzero temperatures and an advanced microscope to help the pathologist determine if cancer is present. Men now have access to timely, accurate care, and maintain their dignity through private and comfortable prostate services.

Inpatient Cancer Care Unit

The Inpatient Cancer Care Unit at the Pasqua Hospital is the only unit of its kind in southern Saskatchewan. Patients stay for weeks or even months at a time, receiving treatments including chemotherapy and radiation. Those who need surgery benefit from a multi-year renovation and technology upgrade project that was completed in 2023 to increase Regina’s surgical capacity through Hospitals of Regina Foundation’s investment of $3 million.

Children's Cancer Care Clinic

Children and teenagers requiring cancer care now have access to the Children’s Cancer Clinic at the Regina General Hospital, which opened in 2022. This child-friendly treatment unit was made possible by a $1.5 million investment from Hospitals of Regina Foundation. Each year, approximately 20 children and teens from Regina and southern Saskatchewan are diagnosed with cancer, and around 100 receive treatment, monitoring or follow-up care at our clinic. Additionally, a pharmacy clean room has been established to enhance the quality of children's cancer care in southern Saskatchewan. This specialized area within the Children’s Cancer Clinic will allow pharmacists to develop personalized chemotherapy treatments for each child undergoing treatment. The Foundation has committed an additional $2.8 million to create this crucial space as part of its ongoing commitment to provide the best pediatric care for children in southern Saskatchewan.
