Before the Eye Centre opening, the Pasqua Hospital had an ad-hoc eye clinic where ophthalmologists performed procedures out of their own offices. Many shared equipment, but due to the cost associated with upgrading the equipment, the technology was often out of date or the equipment was not readily available. Patients often had to travel between locations for treatment and some had to travel out of province. Our southern Saskatchewan community needed centralized, coordinated eye care and improved, standardized treatment. With an investment from Hospitals of Regina Foundation, the Regina Eye Centre was established at the Pasqua Hospital.

Today, the Eye Centre is a one-stop clinic where patients can access a spectrum of services from general eye care to specialized testing and therapies, minor eye procedures, and treatment for conditions ranging from cataracts to vision loss. Each year, more than 23,000 southern Saskatchewan patients need the Eye Centre where they are benefiting from the centralized approach and receiving the best care possible care thanks to the advanced technology available to their eye care team.

One of the most recent technologies the Foundation invested in is the Optus retinal imaging camera. This specialized device captures ultra-widefield images of the retina. It allows eye care professionals to see more of the retina, helping in the detection, diagnosis and monitoring of various eye conditions including diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, macular degeneration and retinal detachment. Many of these conditions might not have been visible with traditional methods.

Hospitals of Regina Foundation is proud to invest in the Regina Eye Centre, helping our eye care team deliver excellent care to our southern Saskatchewan community.
