Every year, medical imaging technology assists our health care teams in diagnosing and treating diseases and injuries for thousands of individuals across southern Saskatchewan. Almost every patient encounters some form of medical imaging during their healthcare journey.

Medical imaging is an essential part of modern health care. Advanced imaging technologies, such as computerized tomography (CT) scans, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans, X-rays, and ultrasounds, play a crucial role in evaluating brain injuries, administering localized chemotherapy, and screening for cancer, among many other applications. Many of these were made possible by the support of our community, through Hospitals of Regina Foundation.

An investment from the Foundation helped establish the new, leading-edge Interventional Radiology (IR) Suite at the Pasqua Hospital, which opened in 2021. This is the second IR suite in Regina, doubling the capacity of our hospitals to perform minimally invasive procedures for diagnosing and treating diseases across nearly every organ system in the body.

Additional medical imaging advancements the Foundation supported include a Gastrointestinal (GI) fluoroscopy system. This GI fluoroscopy system uses X-ray technology to allow our specialists to view the patient’s body in real time as it moves so they can diagnose many conditions and diseases, including Celiac Disease, Crohn’s Disease and cancer, as well as complete therapeutic procedures for gallstones, intestinal obstructions, cysts and advanced bowel disease without major surgery. In 2022, Hospitals of Regina Foundation invested in a new GI fluoroscopy system and other technology to replace aging equipment, so the Gastrointestinal Unit can continue to help an average of five patients a day.
