For Larry Piller, helping others has always been part of life in a smaller Saskatchewan community.

A retired border services officer, Larry spent much of his career at the Regway Canada/U.S. border crossing. His work gave him the opportunity to train and teach other border staff. Today, he lives in the Qu’Appelle Valley near Grenfell, where he remains active in local clubs and on his church board.

Staying involved, Larry says, helps him stay young. More importantly, it keeps him connected to the people around him.

“It’s important to help others in whatever capacity we have,” says Larry. “We all have talents and abilities to share, and journeys to share with others. It helps us understand one another and whatever path we’re on.”

That perspective has guided Larry’s generosity for many years. He has been a donor to Hospitals of Regina Foundation since 1994, giving month after month to help ensure people across Regina and southern Saskatchewan have access to the best health. His generosity reflects a life shaped by service, community and the belief that everyday people can create lasting change.

Larry does not remember the exact moment he made his first gift, but he remembers why it felt right. His parents had needed hospital care, and both received good care when they needed it. Supporting Hospitals of Regina Foundation simply made sense.

Over the past two years, Larry has had two hip replacements of his own. His experience as a patient deepened his appreciation for the importance of strong local health care.

“The care I received was excellent,” says Larry. “I want others to be able to have that same level of health care.”

For Larry, giving is one way to help keep care accessible for everyone, regardless of their circumstances. He knows health care touches every family at some point, and he believes those who are able to give do make a meaningful difference.

That belief led Larry to make a legacy gift to Hospitals of Regina Foundation. Through his estate planning, he hopes to maximize the impact of his support and help as many people as possible. He is also exploring how the land he owns could one day benefit the cause that means so much to him.

“There is no doubt in my mind this is the place I can make a difference in my community, and to many people,” says Larry.

For anyone considering a gift in their will, Larry’s message is simple.

“It is an excellent cause to help, as we will all need health care in our lives at some point,” he says. “Not just us, but our loved ones too..”
