June 27, 2022, Regina, SK – In 2012, Hospitals of Regina Foundation helped create the Dilawri Simulation Centre at Regina General Hospital with an initial investment of $1.6 million, including a donation of $1.2 million from the Dilawri Foundation, raised through the Dilawri Grand Gala, and the remainder from our generous community. The Centre was developed to accommodate the growing need for simulation training where practitioners of medicine, including medical students, can learn and practice simulated, sometimes high risk procedures while working together as a team. This modern learning resource also helps to attract and retain medical professionals of many disciplines as they are able to continue building and refining their skills.
“Simulation education offer learners and practitioners the chance to encounter situations, practice procedures and rehearse protocols in a low-risk setting, allowing them to gain confidence, skill and proficiency before ever delivering them in a clinical setting.” said Dr. Kish Lyster, Medical Director, Dilawri Simulation Centre.
The Dilawri Simulation Centre has been providing specialized simulation training to hospital health care teams, paramedics and medical students. Using a variety of methods, environments and state of the art technology, approximately 4,000 practitioners annually are able to perfect key skills needed in their fields.
Since its inception in 2012, the Dilawri Simulation Centre has trained more than 36,000 health care staff and students, truly leaving its mark on our medical community. Proving its adaptability, during the early days of the COVID pandemic the Centre played a key role, both in Regina and across the province, in helping medical teams prepare for the unique health challenges of COVID they would face.
“Celebrating ten years of the Dilawri Simulation Centre is a tremendous accomplishment, which would not have been possible without the support of the Dilawri Foundation and out donors” said Dino Sophocleous, president and CEO, Hospitals of Regina Foundation. “With ongoing support and investments for this outstanding provincial resource, we can continue to ensure the health care staff and medical students of southern Saskatchewan receive world class training.” To help support the Dilawri Simulation Centre through a donation, please visit www.hrf.sk.ca or call (306) 781- 7500.
