Hospitals of Regina Foundation and Saskatchewan Health Authority partner with Regina Police Service SWAT Unit for children in hospital

Sept. 10, 2026, Regina, Sask. – Today, the SWAT superheroes returned to the Regina General Hospital for the second year, creating even more fun and excitement. Once again, Hospitals of Regina Foundation, the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) and Regina Police Service (RPS) joined forces to bring back the SWAT Superhero Rappel event, which was a spectacular success last year. With two new superheroes added to the original lineup of five, this action-filled event raised funds to support children’s health care and brightened the day for many kids who are patients in the Regina General Hospital.
This fundraiser, in support of pediatric care through Hospitals of Regina Foundation, saw members of the Regina Police Service SWAT Unit dress up as superheroes and rappel down the outside wall of the hospital past the pediatric unit playroom window. Their smiles, waves and costumes created a lot of excitement for the group of star-struck kids inside the unit. The SWAT Superheroes were later joined by the RPS Canine Unit and visited with children who are receiving care in the unit.
After visiting the kids, the SWAT Superheroes rappelled down into the Regina General Hospital courtyard, bringing even more enjoyment and fun to other patients, their families and hospital staff.
Thanks to the generosity of the presenting sponsor, GMS, and the superhero sponsors, TD Bank Group and FieldView Financial Services, along with the Regina Police Service members and their families, this event raised over $15,000 for the priority needs of our pediatric programs.

Every year, our hospitals provide care for 20,000 southern Saskatchewan children. Events like this help the Foundation continue to invest in our highest priority: the health care of our kids, right here at home.”
“We’re really excited to throw our capes back on for a second year and spend time with these kids and their families,” says Cst. Paul McNutt with the Regina Police Service SWAT Unit. “As parents, many of us know what it’s like to have a child in hospital, so being able to use our training and skills in this special way means a lot to each of us. We may be wearing the capes, but the kids are the real superheroes.”
Last year, the pediatric inpatient unit at the Regina General Hospital cared for more than 2,000 kids. In addition, the pediatric outpatient clinics, including the Children’s Cancer Clinic, had over 3,100 patient visits.

"As superheroes rappel down the outside of the hospital, they bring moments of joy, hope, and excitement to children receiving care, while reminding families that they are supported every step of the way. We are deeply grateful to the Regina Police Service, Hospitals of Regina Foundation, and their sponsors for creating such a meaningful experience for our patients and families."
