Feb. 14th 2022, Regina, SK – Hospitals of Regina Foundation is pleased to announce the opening of a NEW Interventional Radiology (IR) Suite at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina. Interventional Radiology allows medical teams to see within the body using x-rays, MRI’s, CT or Ultrasound technologies and assist in making non-invasive medical procedures more accurate. Interventional Radiology (IR) procedures usually involve guiding a needle into the body using ultrasound or CT and accessing a particular organ (liver, kidney, stomach etc.) or a vessel (artery or vein), then guiding a wire and catheter through the needle into that area. Using a real-time x-ray camera, the wire and catheter can then be guided through the body to perform whatever procedure is required. Orthoscopic and laparoscopic surgeries are accomplished with real-time live visuals of the body as the procedure is performed, allowing incredible accuracy.

This recent investment by the foundation of $2.2 million is just part of our mission to continue providing outstanding health care to all southern Saskatchewan residents.

“IR sees over 4,800 patients and performs over 5,600 procedures in the Regina General Hospital every year. This new IR suite at the Pasqua Hospital doubles our capacity to provide these minmally-invasive procedures which also reduce recovery times,” says Dino Sophocleous, President and CEO, Hospitals of Regina Foundation. Of course, nothing we do comes without the support of our generous southern Saskatchewan community, to which we are forever grateful.”
