Leaving a Legacy

Leaving a Legacy

My name is Elaine Giroux-Sylvestre, and my husband’s name is Roger. We both grew up in farming communities in southeast Saskatchewan but have made Regina our home for the past 45 years. We were both educators for more than 30 years and have so many memorable teaching experiences. We firmly believe in a strong community spirit and in lending a hand whenever one can. We take great pride in giving back to our community, as it enriches both our lives and the lives of those around us.

Giving back to a cause that would benefit as many people as possible was the reason we decided to make our first donation to Hospitals of Regina Foundation back in December of 2000. That was just the beginning for us. We saw how our support was helping our community so much that we have continued to donate to the Foundation for 21 years.

I can tell you from firsthand experience that Regina’s hospitals offer the best care. Over the years, Roger and I have had various diagnostic tests, medical procedures and even surgeries. This included a scary experience for me, when I urgently needed to have my appendix removed. The medical team acted quickly and, within a day, I had my surgery and I was out of the danger zone. The clinical staff were so attentive and provided me with all the support I needed to have a speedy recovery, which strengthened our desire to give back even more.

Giving back not only benefits us, but also our own family members who have received care at Regina’s hospitals. I’m pleased to share that they all received quality care each time they needed it. These experiences helped us realize just how precious our health is.  A healthy life is a gift that must be treasured and nurtured.

The Foundation’s investments in our hospitals make a difference every day, and we hope that they will always be there to support our doctors and nurses.  To help the Foundation do that, we decided to take a proactive approach to help future patients have the same great experiences we did. Both Roger and I decided to include a gift in our Wills to Hospitals of Regina Foundation in 2019. It is encouraging to know that our legacy will help future generations.

Roger and I look forward to the future, one where our family, friends and neighbours are healthy and strong. When illness strikes, we want to know our loved ones will receive the best care possible, right here at home.

Sincerely,

Elaine Giroux-Sylvestre
