Diagnostic Imaging

Help us invest in the exceptional care that patients deserve

In 2016, the Foundation was dedicated to raising funds for powerful imaging technology to significantly aid in quick diagnosis and treatment to advance care for patients.

Diagnostic Imaging assists with:

  • Screening for cancer
  • Diagnosis/staging
  • Guiding treatments
  • Determining if a treatment is working
  • Monitoring for recurrence

Our current Computerized Tomography (CT) Scanner at the Regina General Hospital is over 10 years old and experiencing numerous breakdowns and repairs. Waitlists have become longer due to the downtime for repair of this scanner.  Our priority for the Diagnostic Imaging Program is to replace the CT Scanner at Regina General Hospital. The total cost to replace this is approximately $2.8 million.

A CT scan can be done on any section of the head or body. It gives clearer pictures of bones and soft tissues which an ordinary X-ray test cannot show, such as muscles, organs, large blood vessels, the brain and nerves.

The most commonly performed CT scan is of the brain - to determine the cause of a stroke, or to assess serious head injuries. Other uses of a CT scan include detecting abnormalities in the body, such as tumors, abscesses, abnormal blood vessels. It can give a surgeon a clear picture of an area of the body before certain types of surgery and pinpoint the exact site of tumors prior to radiotherapy. It is crucial to helping doctors find the right place to take tissue samples (biopsies).

Advances in technology always demonstrate an improvement in image quality for better diagnosis, higher throughputs which reduce patient wait times, better patient safety (lower radiation doses and improved patient comfort) and considerable cost savings (fewer repairs and less equipment is needed to help more patients).

At the Foundation we believe that we can help to lift the burden for those who are struggling with diseases and afflictions by providing access to care when it is needed.  It is imperative to replace and advance medical technology in diagnostic imaging and we thank you for your support.
